Bazaar Nyirenda laid to rest
Bazaar Nyirenda was laid to rest on Thursday at his home in Bwengu, Mzimba. Nyirenda fought for the country’s freedom during the colonial rule and also played a crucial role in development of the country. His funeral was attended by politicians, civil society organisations (CSOs) leaders and a cross section of people.
They included Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarous Chakwera, Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya, former vice-president Khumbo Kachali, judges, MPs, Chiefs and the clergy gathered.
Chakwera said Malawians have to learn from Nyirenda who was ready to sacrifice for others.
“You cannot talk of Malawi’s history without talking of this man and the same applies to the history of MCP. His death has created a big gap in society,” said Chakwera. The picture shows Chakwera laying his wreath.
